2016 Nba Finals Full Game

LeBron James and the Cavs had a good time after they beat the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, as evidence by the Ultimate Warriors t-shirt he wore when they returned to Cleveland and the famous tombstone cookies at the Halloween party.

Now, we're learning that they were pretty confident after they won Game 6 of that series.

'Hey, by the way, they f***** up mentally and physically,' LeBron said in a video posted by ESPN on Wednesday. 'I'm telling you. They f***** up.'

The comments came in the locker room after the Cavs beat the Warriors 115-101 to even the series 3-3. In that game, LeBron scored 41 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed eight rebounds.

In Game 4, LeBron induced Draymond Green into a flagrant foul that got Green suspended for Game 5. With Green watching in the Oakland Coliseum next door, the Cavs took Game 5 112-97.

In Game 6 back in Cleveland, Steph Curry was called for his sixth foul and lost his cool. He was so mad at the refs that he threw his mouthpiece and hit one of the sons of a Cavs minority owner with it.

The Cavs would then win Game 7 in Oakland, though it was a nailbiter that came down to the final few minutes.

LeBron, though, thought it was a sure thing after Game 6. This is how he ended the gathering in the locker room.

So I remember the night of Game 7 Finals 2016 Father’s Day I worked at a restaurant which in hindsight wasn’t that busy and I should have taken off but anyway I caught snippets of the game here and there and from the 3rd quarter to the 4th quarter I saw maybe half. I got home in time to see the last 3 minutes live (with my brothers gf who is from the Bay coincidentally) For some reason I had never rewatched the game and kept putting it off until last night when I rewatched it.

In my opinion Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals is the best game of the decade so far and i’m curious how people who have been watching the game much longer than me would rank it.

Some thoughts on why I think it’s such a great game:

History - The Warriors had a chance to win back to back titles at the time and be considered a mini dynasty with the 2-time MVP Steph Curry and their 73-9 record. Cleveland was gunning for their first title in 50+ years with LBJ having returned to the team a season before.

2016 Nba Finals Game 1

Game 7 - Their wasn’t really a close game all Finals until this game. To have it come in the deciding game made it such a classic. The score going into the 4th was GS 76- Cle 75

Ty Lue somehow out-coached Kerr. He called excellent time-outs, kept the team motivated, and kept riding the guy who was hot. Somehow Shumpert hit a huge 4 point play in a critical moment, JR Smith kept the team alive with his 2 three pointers in the 3rd, Frye played great minutes as did RJ. Kerr messed up by putting Festus Ezeli back in with 6 min. left in the game and James took advantage right away with his fouled three pointer and then made three pointer.

The Game was so close throughout with each team at one point going down 6-7 points and then going on a mini run to get back in it. This literally happened all game with so many ties and lead changes. Whether you were a fan of CLE or GSW you didn’t know who’s team would win until the last 30 seconds of the game. That’s incredible.

JVG kept saying throughout the game “why doesn’t cleveland get into their stuff QUICKER??” and I agreed with him until I realized that CLE was intentionally draining the clock all game, especially in the 4th quarter. SO MANY possessions ended with a shot at less than 5 seconds and I think it was a super smart strategy. They wanted to shrink the game and absolutely did so. Looking at Lebrons shooting line of 9/24 looks bad with no context (and yes his shot was flat this game) but thats because a lot of his shots were off balance at the buzzer. IMO he hit the shots that mattered (3 clutch free throws after Ezeli foul, the 3 over Ezeli the next play, and 1 free throw to ice the game at the end).

This game has so many classic moments. The Block is obviously incredible, but also Kyrie’s shot, Love’s defense on Curry, Lebron’s almost dunk on Draymond with like 15 seconds left, Draymond Green going absolutely nuclear all game to keep the Dubs in it (seriously - 32/15/9/2 with only 2 TO, 11/15 FG and 6/8 from 3 with stellar defense all game), Klay and Curry taking turns getting hot and keeping the score close etc. I thought KLove played a great game, crashing the boards and bringing a hustle that the cavs needed. Kyrie had tunnel vision for a few possessions but hit many tough shots and came through when the cavs needed the dagger. As I said earlier, JR Smith only had 12 points but kept the Cavs afloat when they absolutely needed buckets.

We all know about the drought both teams went through from 4:40 until Kyrie’s shot at :53 seconds but damn, at the time it was crazy for a game 7 to be SO CLOSE. Both teams traded misses and the big moments were James block (at 1:53) which kept it tied as well as Curry’s TO to Klay (behind the back pass at 5:15 with GS up 1) which could have shifted momentum in a big way.

Overall this post isn’t meant to trigger GSW fans at all, yea I was rooting for CLE but even if you hated both teams you can’t deny how great of a game it was. I thought it was officiated really fairly, both teams played great defense, EACH BUCKET throughout the game mattered, and yea - you had no idea who would win until 30 seconds left or so. For a game with so much history and pressure on the line I believe it truly lived to the hype and IMO there hasn’t been a game since that was as great as this one. If you haven’t seen it in and just want to sit back and rewatch a classic I absolutely recommend catching this game again.
